Special Media guidelines
Heavy Print Stock
Heavy (thick) printed stock can generate misfeeds and
paper jams, in addition to causing excessive wear to the
print mechanism.
If paper is heavier than 24 pounds (90 g/m2), use
the multipurpose feeder.
Don't use paper heavier than 28 lbs. The acceptable
range of media weight for Model 1760/1765 use is
16 to 28 lbs (60 to 105 g/m2).
Envelopes
Envelopes should be fed into the printer through the
multipurpose feeder or the optional envelope feeder.
The envelope feeder accepts four standard envelope
sizes: Monarch, Com-10, DL, and C5. The multipurpose
feeder accepts B5 (ISO) in addition to Monarch, Com-10,
DL, and C5.
The leading edge of an envelope that feeds into the
printer must be straight. The fold must be firmly
creased and be no thicker than two paper thicknesses. It
is highly recommended that double side seamed
envelopes, rather than diagonal seams be used. A
variety of double side seam envelopes were tested and
most performed acceptably. As a rule, the larger the
envelope is, the more difficult it is to feed properly.
The base weight of envelope paper cannot exceed 24
pounds (90 g/m2). Commercial envelopes, called
regular or business envelopes, are the most widely used
and are probably the most reliable for your printing
needs.
B–2
User's Guide
Neither envelopes with peel-off adhesive strips nor
envelopes that are heavily embossed feed well. In
addition, avoid
Heavily textured or coated envelopes.
Envelopes with snaps, clasps, tie strings, cellophane
windows, or curved or thick leading paper edges
(They don't feed consistently.)
Envelopes composed with glues, inks, and
adhesives that could discolor, scorch, or melt when
heat is applied
Adhesives that generate harmful emissions at
temperatures greater than 392°F (200°C) for 0. 1
seconds
Envelopes made with recycled paper
Envelopes that use an adhesive that relies on
pressure for sealing
Envelopes that have already been through the
printer once (Don't feed envelopes into the printer a
second time.)
Envelope seams that do not have a continuous and
even glue line (excluding the envelope flap)
Perforations and Cutouts
Perforated paper is not recommended for use in the
Silentwriter. This paper, along with cutout paper such as
die-cut or windowed stock, stands a greater chance of
generating a paper jam. If you choose to use perforated
feed paper, select paper that matches specifications of
standard white xerographic paper and note the
following considerations
Use paper with cleanly cut perforation edges.
Do not use paper with horizontal perforations
(perpendicular to the paper path). When paper
moves from one set of print rollers to the next, the
"pickup" point may be missed, causing misfeeds.
