Review the following questions and answers to gain an
understanding of how the Silentwriter 1760/65
operates. Refer to this section later if you experience any
printing difficulties.
What is the procedure for printing envelopes with
the Silentwriter 1760/65?
Up to 10 envelopes can be printed from the
multipurpose feeder, or up to 75 envelopes can be
printed from the optional envelope feeder. Instructions
for both methods are in Chapter 4.
What type of labels should I use with the
Silentwriter 1760/65?
Sheets of labels that meet the guidelines in Appendix B
can be printed using the multipurpose feeder. Be sure to
test a sample lot before purchasing a large quantity.
Can a parallel, EtherTalk, and LocalTalk cable be
plugged into the Silentwriter 1765 concurrently?
Yes. You can connect to the parallel, EtherTalk, and
LocalTalk ports all at the same time. Then the printer
automatically monitors all three interfaces.
note:
You cannot connect to both the Ethernet
10BaseT and the Ethernet 10Base2 ports at the same
time.

How long should it take for a file to print on the
Silentwriter 1760/65?
The amount of time a file takes to print is a function of
the complexity of the page, that is, how many fonts are
used and/or how many complex graphics it contains. A
simple file may print at 17 pages per minute while
complex desktop publishing may take longer.
How do you change emulations?
The printer has Automatic Emulation Switching (AES).
This means that it automatically changes to the proper
emulation for each job. Or you can specify PostScript 2
or PCL 5e emulation using the operator panel menu
tree.
How can I maintain the print quality of the
Silentwriter 1760/65?

• Environment around the printer and paper

Can I add additional fonts to the Silentwriter 1760/
65?
Yes. Both PostScript fonts and PCL fonts are supported
for their respective emulations. For a complete
