5.16.5 snmp-server trap

Function
Sets the destination to notify SNMP traps from the system. Up to four (4) destinations can be registered.
Use the no form to delete the existing destination names.

Command syntax
snmp-server trap host HOSTNAME community COMMUNITY-NAME [ protocol {v1|v2c} ]
no snmp-server trap host HOSTNAME
Parameter
host HOSTNAME
Specifies a host name or an IP address of the destination SNMP manager.
The IP address can be within the range of 1.0.0.1 to 126.255.255.254, 128.0.0.1 to 191.255.255.254, or 192.0.0.1 to
223.255.255.254.
community COMMUNITY-NAME
Specifies a community name of the destination SNMP manager. The community name can be up to 255 alphanumeric
characters.
[ protocol {v1|v2c} ]
Specifies the SNMP protocol to be notified.
The SNMP v2c protocol is set by default.

Explanation
Four SNMP trap managers have already been registered and you cannot register any more trap manager.
Solution
Delete unnecessary SNMP trap manager or managers, and reissue the command.

Explanation
The name cannot be resolved as an incorrect host name has been specified.

Solution
Review the host name, and reissue the command by specifying the IP address.
% Hostname is too long.
Explanation
The specified host name has exceeded the limit length.
Solution
Review the host name length and reissue the command.
% COMMUNITY-NAME is too long.
Explanation
The specified community name has exceeded the limit length.
Solution
Review the community name length and reissue the command.
% COMMUNITY-NAME cannot be used.
Explanation
An illegal character has been used in the community name.
Solution
Review the community name setting and reissue the command.
% Invalid IP-address.
Explanation
The IP address was specified in an incorrect format or an incorrect address was specified.
Solution
Specify the IP address in the correct format and reissue the command.
Note
If the same host name has already been set, it is overwritten by the new one.
Example
Specify trap notification by the SNMP v2c protocol to the SNMP manager having the IP address of "192.168.10" and the
community name of "xgpublic."
xg(config)# snmp-server trap host 192.168.1.10 community xgpublic protocol v2c
v1
The SNMP v1 protocol is used for trap notification.
v2c
The SNMP v2c protocol is used for trap notification.
