Fatal errors that occur during POST are communicated through a series of beeps. All beep
code errors, except beep code 8, are fatal errors and do not allow the system to continue to
boot.
If beep codes occur during POST, check the items in the Problem Checklist (at the start of
this chapter), verify that all the hardware is set up properly and securely connected, and try
rebooting. If you still get a beep code, go to the section "If You Need Assistance" at the
end of this chapter.

What To Do
The BIOS cannot communicate with the floppy disk controller.
Contact your NECCSD service representative to check all
appropriate connections.
The BIOS cannot communicate with the hard disk drive controller.
Contact your NECCSD service representative to check all
appropriate connections.
Interrupt channel 1 failed POST. Contact your NECCSD service
representative for service.
Interrupt channel 2 failed POST. Contact your NECCSD service
representative for service.
The BIOS can read the diskette in drive A:, but cannot boot the
computer. Use another boot diskette.
The keyboard lock on the computer is engaged. The computer
must be unlocked to continue.
There is a timing problem with the keyboard. Set the Keyboard
option in Setup to Not Installed to skip the keyboard POST
routines.
There is an error in the keyboard connector. Contact your
NECCSD service representative for service.
Parity error installed in an expansion slot. Contact your NECCSD
service representative to be sure that the memory module is
installed correctly.
The error format is:
OFF BOARD PARITY ERROR
ADDR(HEX) = ( XXXX )
XXXX is the hex address where the error occurred.
Parity error in system board memory. Contact your NECCSD
service representative for service.
Parity error in system memory at an unknown address. Contact
your NECCSD service representative for service.
