3.5.1 8-port Ethernet switch connections (ETH0)
The M20 router incorporates an 8-port 10/100/1000 Base-T Switch with automatic MDI/MDIX to connect to a local
area network (LAN).
Please pay careful attention to the labeling to avoid mixing up this switch with other port types:

Note
During booting and in BIOS mode, only the port 0 is available.
3.5.2 Ethernet Combo connections (ETH1 to ETH2)
Two Combo ports, Copper (RJ45) and Fiber ports (SFP), are available on the M20, labeled as ETH1 to ETH2 for in-
dividual/dedicated LAN connections.
A Combo port means that you can use either the RJ45 port or the SFP port. They are paired in two (which ports are
paired are indicated by dots). Only one of the ports in the pair can be active at any given time. To avoid any issues,
make sure both ports are never connected simultaneously.
The Copper ports support standard 3-speed, 10/100/1000Base-T protocol. The SFP port support standard
1000Base-X over single-mode or multi-mode optics.
Note
10/100/1000Base-T Copper SFP transceiver modules are not supported on SFP ports. Use RJ45 ports
instead.

Note
Do not install or remove the SFP transceiver module with fiber-optic cables still attached to it. Doing so
may damage cables, cable connectors, or the optical interfaces and may interfere with the transceiver
module latching properly into its socket connector. Disconnect all cables before removing or installing
an SFP transceiver module.
Note
The SFP transceiver modules are static sensitive devices. Always use an ESD wrist strap or similar in-
dividual grounding device when handling SFP transceiver modules or coming in contact with modules.
