Note that the multimeter must have the diode test function and this must be selected for the test: it is
important that the polarity be respected during the test, as diodes have a polarity-dependant conductibility.
Pictures below explain how to check phase W IGBT module integrity. I n t he same operations are repeated
with respect to the phase V and U. Forward bias is used to do voltage drop test.
Below the two images to fully test the U phase. On the first picture the top diode/IGBT is verified; in the
second the bottom diode/IGBT: the component is defective if the voltage drop is below 0.1V: in this case
the multimeter beeps (multimeter in Diode Check Mode).
Top IGBT check: positive (red probe) is applied to
the inverter output terminal; black probe applied
to the positive dc bus. In this case the diode/IGBT
is good if voltage is above 0.1V.

Bottom IGBT check: positive (red probe) is applied to the
negative dc bus; black probe to the output terminal. In this
case the diode/IGBT is good as voltage is above 0.1V.
