Disk Care
To avoid damaging the disks, note the following precautions.
When preparing a label for a disk, write on it before placing it on the
disk. If a label that is already on the disk must be written on, use a
felt-tip pen. Ballpoint pens and pencils may exert enough force on the
disk to crease the Mylar (thus destroying its usefulness) and should not
be used to mark labels once they are on a disk.
Handle the disk in the same manner as an audio record. It should be
stored in its protective envelope in an upright position and away from
heat or direct sunlight. Do not bend the disk or use paper clips on it.
Do not touch the exposed areas of the disk.
Do not expose disks to magnetic fields or X-ray sources. Magnets and
magnetized objects can erase information stored on disks. X-rays may
also erase data.
