Installation
Connecting the Peripherals
Refer to Figure 2-7 for the following discussion.
Place the computer where it is to be used. Position the computer for
easy access to the back panel.
If an external monitor is to be used, unpack it and place it in a
convenient viewing location. Make sure that there is access to all
the monitor controls and connectors.

For RGB monitors: Connect one end of the cable to the RGB
9-pin, D-type connector on the back of the computer. Connect
the other end of the cable to the connector on the monitor.

For monochrome monitors: Connect one end of the cable to
the composite video out jack on the back of the computer.
Connect the other end of the cable to the video input jack
on the monitor.
For printers and modems: Connect one end of the cable to either
the serial or parallel connector, depending on the configuration of
the device. Connect the other end of the cable to the printer or
modem. The computer controls the following settings through soft-
ware and are selected by accessing the MS-DOS Configur program.
Type — Determines device type being confugured-serial or parallel.
Baud rate — Determines the speed at which a serial device and
computer communicate.
Data bits — Determines the number of bits the device expects the
computer to use to represent a character.
Stop bits — Informs the device that the end of a character has
been reached.
Handshaking — Establishes communication between the computer
and the device.
