Partial-Home Backup
For partial-home backup installations where the Backup Gateway is installed on the load side
of the main switch and feeds a subset of all loads, do the following:
The pre-wired voltage taps in the Backup Gateway are correctly positioned for this
configuration, and do not need to be relocated.
Remove the CT from the Backup Gateway and place it on the corresponding power
lines in the main switchboard, between the utility meter and ahead of any loads.
If the site includes solar equipment, place an additional CT on the solar L1 wire in the
main switchboard.
Partial-Home Backup with Meter Relocated to Main Panel
For partial-home backup installations where the Backup Gateway is more than 4.5 m away
from the main panel, the meter can be removed from the Backup Gateway and relocated to
the main panel.
Remove the meter from the Backup Gateway:
1. Unplug the pre-wired voltage line 4-conductor harness and CTs from the meter.
Leave the other end of the harness connected to the Gateway, and secure it out of the
way with a cable tie.
2. Remove the meter and CT from the Backup Gateway enclosure.
Install the meter in the main switchboard:
Using the self-drilling screws provided in the meter kit, install the meter in the
switchboard. Choose a location that takes into account the voltage line harness and
CT cable lengths.
Wire the voltage taps:
1. Plug the modified voltage line harness into the meter.
2. Connect the voltage line harness leads to switchboard terminals according to the
following table.
Voltage Harness Port/Wire Color
A / Brown
N / Blue
NOTE: If there are no empty breakers available in the switchboard, use the provided jumper
wire and wiretaps to connect the voltage line harness leads to an occupied breaker terminal.
Replace the existing wire with a jumper, and connect the existing wire and the voltage harness
lead to the jumper with a wiretap.
Locate the CTs:
Place a CT on the corresponding power wire in the switchboard after the utility meter
and ahead of any loads.
If the site includes solar equipment, place an additional CT on the solar wire in the
switchboard.
