Encoder description

The motors are equipped with various rotary encoders to sense the speed and position.
Note
The motors can also be equipped with functionally safe rotary encoders. To do this, follow the
operating instructions provided, BA 2331 SIMOGEAR Geared motor with DRIVE CLiQ rotary
encoder or BA 2730 SIMOGEAR Geared motor with rotary encoder for safety-related
applications.
Description of the motors with preparation for mounting an encoder
The motors can be provided with a shaft end as interface for mounting a rotary encoder
provided by the customer. The shaft is designed for maximum total weight of m = 500 g. The
connection system and wiring for the encoder system must be selected such that the rotary
encoder is not subjected to any additional forces. The encoder must be mounted in such
a way that normal linear expansion does not subject the torque arm to any impermissible
forces. When delivered, the mounting shaft has a maximum radial runout of less than
or equal to 0.1 mm. When selecting an encoder, it must be ensured that the minimum
immersion depth of the solid shaft into the hollow shaft corresponds to the encoder
manufacturer's data. The data provided by the encoder manufacturer must also be carefully
observed. Interface "Prepared for encoder mounting" is always provided with a device to
protect the encoder while it is being transported. Use the encoder protection device to
protect the mounted encoder and the mounting system against mechanical damage. Refer to
the catalog for the dimensions of the available mounting space and other dimensions.
This option is suitable for applications with medium shock and vibration requirements. At
medium clock cycle frequencies of the application, speeds up to 3 600/min are possible.

Second shaft end and handwheel

Second shaft end
For 4-pole motors, a free, second shaft end can be supplied at the non-drive end (NDE).
The second shaft end has a keyway and a 60° centering hole on the face side according
to DIN 332, Part 2 with M3 to M24 threaded hole depending on the shaft diameter. For a
coupling output, the second shaft end can transmit the full rated power. Contact Siemens for
the power that can be transmitted and permissible cantilever force if belt pulleys, chains or
gear wheels are used as output element on the second shaft end.
Handwheel
Motors, frame sizes 71 to 160, can be supplied with a second shaft end and additionally
with a handwheel. The handwheel is a disk-type handwheel in accordance with DIN 3670.
