7.0 Knife Installation/Changing
2. Switch the power OFF, then disconnect power and lock it out (Section 2.2 Power Lockout
Procedure).
3. Turn out (unscrew) the knife adjusting screws on top of the knife bar several turns (Figure 16).
NOTE: Failure to back off the screws could cause damage to the new knife and/or the
cutting stick.
4. Restore power to the machine, switch the power ON, and switch the Knife Adjust Switch to the
"Run" mode. Send the knife and clamp up by pressing both cut buttons briefly.
5. Switch the power OFF, then disconnect power and lock it out (Section 2.2 Power Lockout
Procedure).
6. Pull out the cut stick using the cut stick removal tool and rotate or turn it to a new surface, or
replace with a new one. If the top surface of the cut stick is below the level of the table, 1/2"/6mm
strips of paper can be placed in the table slot under the cut stick to shim it.
7. Remove the retainer screws holding the new blade to the scabbard and screw the knife lifter
handles into the new blade. Screw the lifters all the way in and then back them out about 3/4 of a
turn.
8. Maneuver the knife into place in the knife bar. Unscrew the handles slightly if necessary to insert
the handles into the slotted holes. Raise the knife as high as it will go, then tighten the handles
firmly.
9. Insert knife bolts and washers into the two accessible holes and snug them tight enough to hold
the knife safely, but do not tighten to final tightness.
10. Remove the knife lifter assembly by unscrewing the handles. Now insert the remaining two knife
bolts and washers, and snug them like the others.
11. Place a few strips of paper over the cut stick, some in the center of the table and some on each
side (as seen in Figure 17).
12. Restore power to the machine and switch the power ON.
13. Switch the Knife Adjust Switch on the control console to "Adjust Knife" mode. Then press and
hold the cut buttons to send the clamp and knife to the down position. Continue to hold the cut
buttons for several seconds after the knife reaches the table – this is necessary to prevent the
knife from shifting back up slightly when the hydraulics stop running. NOTE: It is very important
that the knife does not shift up even the slightest amount.
