Chapter 15. Error Reporting
ASCQ
Error Description
Third party device failure—
01h
hardware failure of the target device.
Copy target device not reachable—
02h
device is not responding after having
been found.
Incorrect copy target device type—
03h
attempting read/write operation to
wrong type of device.
Copy target device data under-run—
04h
less than the requested amount of
data was sent to the drive.
Copy target device data overrun—
05h
more data was sent to the drive than
was requested.
Explanation or Error Remedy
Specific error codes returned from the device
are found in the vendor extensions of the
sense data, beginning at Byte 18. The first
byte (18) is the status returned by the device,
and the remaining bytes are the sense data
from the faulting device. Corrective action is
indicated by this sense data (e.g., write
failure to tape, hardware failure, etc.).
The attempt to access the target device
resulted in a selection timeout (or
equivalent). This can be caused by hardware
failures in the target device or by
connectivity failures. In a fibre environment,
this can also be caused by a misbehaving
initiator that arbitrarily resets devices.
During the LIP and login process, the target
device may be temporarily unavailable.
An attempt was made to perform a disk
operation to a non-disk device, or a tape
operation to a non-tape device. This
generally indicates a bug in the XCOPY
application software, and should only be
seen in development or test environments.
The target device refused to accept/provide
the correct amount of data. This generally
indicates a bug in the XCOPY
implementation on the library, and should
only be seen in development or test
environments.
