Displaying the Configuration Toolbar The Library Controller lets you configure the library through the Configuration toolbar. This toolbar provides buttons that you can use to configure all aspects of the library: • Partition • Drive Config • Controller • System The Library Controller also provides online help for each of the configuration tasks.
  • Page 25: Partitioning The Library

Partitioning the Library The Spectra 64K library provides Shared Library Services™ (SLS). Using SLS allows the library to be partitioned so that it performs and looks like more than one library up to a total of four libraries. Each logical library can be dedicated for a specific host or application.
  • Page 26 Note: On a new library you will see a Total Library bar and a Library 1 (default) bar. The Total Library bar cannot be edited or deleted. The Total Library bar displays the total possible capacity of the library. It does not indicate the actual available capacity. 4.
  • Page 27 Only one controller in each partition can be configured to export a library. Enable Queued Unloads and Defer Queued Unloads Spectra Logic strongly recommends that you leave both of these checked. If you are going to have multiple partitions, you are required to enable queued ejects on all partitions.
  • Page 28 QIP bus does not export. Note: When configuring the Spectra 64K library as one logical library, one bus on any QIP must have the option Exports a Logical Library enabled to provide the robotics control interface to a host. The blue Exports radio button indicates that this bus is the one that will be assigned to control robotics.

Attach the Spectra Logic approved bar code label to the cartridge with the numbers closest to the top of the cartridge (the side with the clear plastic window); make sure that the edge of the label is parallel to the edge of the cartridge as shown below.

Insert the data cartridge in a cartridge pack with the cartridge window facing the top of the magazine. Correctly installed, the data cartridge snaps into the tape slot. Remove the data cartridge by grasping the cartridge and pulling the tape straight out of the pack.
  • Page 116 • Attach the clear plastic lid to the front of the cartridge pack to shield the data cartridges from dust and other debris while in storage. • Before inserting cartridges in the library, store the cartridges for up to 24 hours in the same room as the library.
  • Page 117 However, regular cleaning with approved Sony cleaning Media is required to keep the drives in ongoing working operation. Spectra logic recommends a cleaning interval of every 100 hours to start with. If you still receive drive read/write errors mid-way through this period, shorten the cleaning interval until no drive read/write errors (that are solved by cleaning) are encountered.

  • Page 120: Changing The Library Air Filters

Changing the Library Air Filters Spectra 64K libraries have three replaceable filters inside the front door. Inspect library filters every three to four months. If a filter is dirty, replace it with a new filter. A clogged air filter blocks air movement within the library, resulting in higher temperatures inside the library.
  • Page 121 7. Remove the old filter by pulling it out from under the six tabs on the filter bracket. 8. Slide the new filter under the four tabs, so that the filtered side is facing the door (toward you), and the plastic side is facing the front of the filter bracket. Ensure the filter is centered in the bracket and secured under all six tabs on the bracket.
  • Page 122: Adding Drives

Adding Drives The Spectra 64K library readily accepts additional drives up to a maximum of 32 drives. Although robotic operations are disabled when the front door is open (incoming robotic commands will be queued and executed when the door is closed), the drives continue operation while you add or remove a drive.

CoD is a capacity-on-demand feature that allows customers to activate additional capacity in their tape library as their storage needs grow (up to a total of 640 slots). Spectra Logic’s CoD eliminates the need to estimate data growth curves and future storage needs, saving time and money.
  • Page 131 2. To enable additional slots, you will need to obtain an Activation Key from Spectra Logic. Contact Spectra Logic with the hardware ID of the device, as displayed in the Hardware ID field in the System Configuration screen, to obtain the activation key.
