Set the Hardware/Software Jumper
The hardware/software jumper is located on the circuit
board and is labeled "H" and "S".

Hardware The media converter settings are determined
by dip switch settings (p. 3-5).
Software
The media converter settings are determined
by the most-recently saved, on-board
microprocessor settings.

Install the Slide-in-Module

CAUTION: Wear a grounding device and observe electrostatic discharge
precautions when installing the CBFTF10xx-11x slide-in-module media
converter. Failure to observe this caution could result in damage to, and
subsequent failure of, the media converter.
1.
Carefully slide the slide-in-module into two adjacent installation slots,
aligning the module with the installation guides.
2.
Ensure that the module is firmly seated against the back of the chassis.
3.
Push in and rotate the attached panel fastener screw clockwise to secure
the module to the chassis front.

Installation
Install the Copper and Fiber Cables
If half-duplex mode is used, refer to the 512-Bit Rule (see page 9).

If full-duplex mode is used, the 512-Bit Rule does not apply. The cable
lengths are constrained by the cable requirements (see pages 1 and 2).
Twisted-Pair Copper Cable

The AutoCross feature allows either MDI (straight-through) or MDI-X
(crossover) cable connections to be configured automatically, according to the
network conditions.
1.
Locate or build IEEE 803.2™ compliant 10Base-T or 100Base-TX cables,
with RJ-45 connectors installed at both ends.
2.
Connect the RJ-45 connector at one end of the cable to the RJ-45 port on
the CBFTF10xx-11x media converter.
3.
Connect the RJ-45 connector at the other end of the cable to the RJ-45
port on the other device (switch, workstation, etc.).

Fiber Cable
1.
Locate or build IEEE 803.2™ compliant 100Base-FX fiber cable with
male, two-stranded TX to RX connectors installed at both ends.
2.
Connect the fiber cables to the CBFTF10xx-11x media converter as
described:
Connect the male TX cable connector to the female TX port.
Connect the male RX cable connector to the female RX port.
3.
Connect the fiber cables to the other device (another media converter,
hub, etc.) as described:
Connect the male TX cable connector to the female RX port.
Connect the male RX cable connector to the female TX port.
