222 Driving and parking
adapt your speed to the driving conditions and
keep a sufficient distance.
The recuperative brake system has the following
characteristics:
supports braking with electronically controlled
R
brake force boosting
converts the kinetic energy of the vehicle into
R
electric energy
%
If you brake hard, the mechanical brake is
also used. This means that the maximum
recuperative energy cannot be recovered. The
more you drive and brake in an anticipatory
manner, the more efficiently energy can be
recuperated.
System limits
The braking effect of the electric motor during
recuperation in overrun mode may be reduced or
may not be available at all in the following situa-
tions:
when the high-voltage battery charge level
R
increases
if the high-voltage battery is not yet at a nor-
R
mal operating temperature
In these cases, the desired deceleration is set by
the brake control system.
Manually setting recuperative deceleration
%
You can use the steering wheel gearshift pad-
dles to adjust the intensity of recuperation in
drive programs n, o and Î.
The following recuperation levels are available:
hà Intelligent and anticipatory recupera-
R
tion with ECO Assist (

hq No recuperation: the vehicle rolls freely
R
h Normal recuperation

h± Increased recuperation: strong deceler-

downhill gradients
Standard setting:

impaired. Also observe the information on
vehicle sensors and cameras (
