Function of rear axle steering

This function is an on-demand feature

The rear axle steering is an electromechanical
auxiliary steering on the rear axle which adjusts
the steering of the rear wheels according to the
position of the front wheels, depending on the
speed. This results in greater manoeuvrability and
improved driving stability, e.g. when cornering.
Rear axle steering has the following characteris-
tics:
reduced steering effort and turning circle
R
resulting in reduced parking effort
improved driving stability, e.g. when cornering
R
more direct steering resulting in improved
R
handling of the vehicle
Observe the notes on snow chains and snow
chain mode (
page 469).

ECO start/stop function
ECO start/stop function

Depending on the engine, the ECO start/stop
function is not available in all drive programs.
Observe the status display on the driver's dis-
play concerning this.
%
Plug-in hybrid: this function is not available.
The engine will be switched off automatically in
the following situations if all vehicle conditions for
an automatic engine stop are met:
You brake the vehicle to a standstill in trans-
R
mission position h or i.
Vehicles with a 48 V on-board electrical sys-
R
tem: you depress the brake pedal when travel-
ling at a low speed.
If the system has detected one of the following
situations, the engine will not stop:
You stop at a stop sign and there is no vehicle
R
in front of you.
The vehicle that stopped in front of you starts
R
up again.
You manoeuvre, turn the steering wheel
R
sharply or engage reverse gear.

If the system detects an intelligent stop inhibi-
tor, e.g. a stop sign, the engine will not stop.
If you activate the HOLD function or engage
the park position j, the engine can be
switched off in spite of an intelligent stop
inhibitor.
The engine will restart automatically in the follow-
ing cases:
You engage transmission position h or k.
R
You depress the accelerator pedal.
R
The vehicle requires an automatic engine
R
start.
You release the brake pedal.
R
Vehicles with a 48 V on-board electrical sys-
R
tem:
You release the brake pedal on a downhill
-
gradient and the vehicle does not roll.
The vehicle rolls on a downhill gradient and
-
does not automatically enter glide mode at
20 km/h.
