7.7 Aanderra Doppler Current Sensor (DCS)

7.7.1 Mounting

The DCS mounts using the side bracket at the bottom of
the instrument tube which gives a clear view of the side
angles for current measurement. The DCS is held in the
bracket using a U-bolt. Stainless Steel SS316, (A) 6mm
diameter/M6 thread, (B) 31mm between U-bolt legs, (C)
54mm overall length, (D) 17mm thread length.
The DCS bracket is held onto the sonde tube using 2 x M8 captive nuts.
The bracket uses M8 x 20mm SS316 hex head screws with a flat and
spring washer. These two screws may be undone to detach the DCS
from the buoy.
When installing the blue connector onto the DCS body it is critical that
the o-ring is in position. Take care to keep the o-ring safe if you detach the connector from the DCS to prevent it
becoming lost. If the o-ring is not used, the instrument will fail to respond after a short period once submerged.
Once the DCS is mounted in position, run the cable up the outside of the instrument tube, until near the underside
of the buoy and then insert the cable into the tube, using cable ties along the way.

7.7.2 Bulkhead Connector

As with the EXO sonde, the DCS being a common option is supplied with a bulkhead connector prewired. Refer to
the CRBasic program header, or Table 3 on page 22 for details on the wiring inside the Ai1.

7.7.3 Configuration

By default, the DCS is running in AADI Smart Sensor Terminal Protocol, at 9600 baud, with text output on.
If the DCS is wired to the bidirectional RS232 port (ComRS232) then it is possible to use Serial Talk Through mode to
configure the DCS either locally or via the telemetry
which uses bidirectional communications, the Ai1 uses C1 in Receive Only mode to listen to data from the DCS
When using C1 in Receive only mode, the DCS must be configured (with a PC, using the custom PCBH4 cable –

See section 21,"Diagnostic Tools" for more details on using serial talk-through mode

BETA: An internal option is available to have a cross-over relay which temporarily switches C1 from the GPS to being used by the DCS for serial talk-through. In this wiring, DCS Green is connected to C2 and DCS
White is connected to PLL. This has been implemented from PCB revision 2021_6 onwards
