3. Ai1POLE
3.1 Unpacking
The Ai1POLE system is supplied with a bird spike kit and a package of spares and
tools which includes:
•
U-bolts for pole mounting
•
A USB data cable (Micro-B) with inbuilt LED to illuminate the USB
connection inside the access port.
•
A spare desiccant pack for controlling humidity inside housing.
•
Bird Spike kit
3.2 Mounting
The Two SS316 M8 U-bolts supplied with the Ai1 are suitable for pole diameters from 38mm up to 63mm. The
largest possible pipe is ideally used for maximum strength. Care should be taken to make sure that the U-bolts are
mounted at the top and bottom extremities of each slot for maximum strength (see figure below). The same U-bolts
may be used with other slots for horizontal pipes. If pipes with a diameter less than 38mm are to be used, an
optional kit of Two 38mm ID M8 U-bolts should be purchased. It is also possible to screw the Ai1 bracket to a flat
vertical surface using the 6 x 5mm diameter holes as illustrated in the drawing below.
3.3 Ai1POLE and Ai1-EXT mounting options
The Ai1POLE, Ai1-EXT and associated displays and accessories suit either 32NB (Nominal Bore), 40NB or 50NB pipe
which is available in galvanised steel or stainless steel for special applications. 32NB pipe has an outside diameter of
42.4mm, while 40NB pipe is 48.3mm, and 50NB OD is 60.3mm. For concreting a post directly into the ground, it is
recommended to source the length of pipe locally to save on shipping costs and to use the desired length. Hardware
stores sell 50NB galvanised steel pipe in pre-cut
to length with lengths available up to 6.5m. Remember to source an end-cap and mount the bird spike kit to prevent
fouling of the panel.
If purchasing a kit listed below, the kits include all the specialist parts typically required which includes the base and
accessories such as the pre-drilled end-cap to mount the top bird spikes. While these kits are available,
consideration to their suitability on your site must be considered and they may not suit all situations.
