If engine won't start

If the engine is warm or if you smell fuel,
excessive fuel may have been inhaled into
the engine. Wait for a while and start the
engine with the accelerator pedal fully de­
pressed. Do not continue to operate the
iginition switch if the engine still will not
start.
If the sound level of the horn is low, or if the
headlights are dim, first check the battery.
See Section 13.
If the battery is discharged, jump-start it.
If the cause still is not clear, have the sys­
tem checked by a Perodua dealer.
WARNING
Do not push- or pull-start the vehicle.
This could damage the vehicle or
cause an accident.

Jump-starting

WARNING
Observe the following instructions to
prevent serious bodily injury and dam­
age to your vehicle. In addition, follow
the instructions of a jumper cable
manufacturer.
• If you are not versed in the jump
starting procedure, ask a Perodua
dealer or a towing service.
• Refer to "Instructions on Do-it­
yourself maintenance service" be­
fore jump starting.
• Batteries contain sulfuric acid
which is poisonous and corrosive.
Wear protective safety glasses and
be careful not to splash battery
fluid on yourself, clothes or vehi­
cle. If battery fluid is splashed on
your skin or in your eye, remove
your contaminated clothes and
wash the part at least 15 minutes.
Immediately see a doctor,
Continue applying water with a
sponge or cloth on the way to a
medical facility.
• If you have swallowed battery fluid,
drink as much water or milk as pos­
sible and immediately see a doctor.
• Keep any fire away from the battery.
It could cause battery explosion.
• Do not charge a frozen battery.
Thaw battery fluid before jump­
starting; otherwise the gas in the
battery fluid may explode.
• Do not jump-start the vehicle with a
battery of low fluid level.
• Keep children away from a battery.
• Jump-start the vehicle in a well ven­
tilated place.
CAUTION
• Use a 12-volt booster battery. Appli­
cation of higher voltage may cause
serious damage to the electrical
equipment such as relays and radio.
Do not jump-start the vehicle unless
you are sure of the booster battery
voltage.
• The capacity (AH rating) of the
booster battery must not be lower
than that of the discharged battery.

• Wash splashed battery fluid away
from paint finish immediately.
