Automatic transmission shifting
instructions
c:> :Move the shift lever with the brake pedal
depressed and the shift level button
pushed.
+ :Move the shift lever with the shift lever
button pushed.
c:> :Move the shift lever without pushing the
shift lever button.
The following show the function of each
range.
For parking the vehicle, starting the
®
engine and removing the ignition
key.
For reversing the vehicle.

Neutral
The engine can be started in this
range.
It is, however, advisable to start
theengine in the Prange for assured
safety purpose.
@ For normal driving
Gear shifting is carried out automati
cally between the 1st gear and the
3rd gear according to the vehicle
speed.
For upgrade driving and down grade
@
driving.
On a upgrade, you can drive the
vehicle with less gear shifting. On a
downgrade, the engine brake works
slightly.

For steep downgrade driving.
Use this range when the engine brake
is needed.
NOTE
• The engine can be started only in® or
®·
• For c:> , • operation, the shift lever
cannot be moved the without depress­
ing the shift lever button to prevent
wrong manipulations.
Check the indicator to see the present
position of the shift lever.
Moving off
Depress the brake pedal fully and hold its
position. Then, release the shift lever from
the® range.
After releasing the parking brake completely,
move the vehicle by the releasing the brake
pedal slowly.
WARNING
• Never operate the shift lever while
depressing the accelerator pedal.
The vehicle may move suddenly.
• When engine revolution speed is
high (such as right after starting the
engine, during warming-up or when
the air conditioner switch is on),
depress the brake pedal firmly, oth­
erwise the vehicle may move.
