In order to prevent the battery from discharging,
unused comfort functions are progressively turned

off. The vehicle can then be unlocked using the ve-

hicle key.

Unlocking doors as you approach the vehicle
The central locking system can be set so that the

doors will unlock automatically as you approach the
H
vehicle (distance of approx. 6.5 ft. (2 m)).
The prerequisite for this is that the vehicle key was

at least approx. 19.5 ft. (6 m) away from the vehicle
J
since the last time you locked it. When parking the
vehicle and then locking it, keep the key a sufficient
K
distance away. Otherwise, it may be unlocked unin-
L
tentionally within 45 seconds.

1. Move towards the vehicle.
The emergency flasher emits one flash.

3. Pull the door handle.

Information
The doors cannot be opened from inside if the ve-
hicle was locked using the emergency key.

If the vehicle is de-energized (e.g. if the battery is
discharged) or if the door openers were pulled too
quickly, the door openers may have to be pulled
twice.

Automatic unlocking
The vehicle is unlocked automatically:
– When activating the P button on the selector
lever.
– or –
– When opening a door.
Unlocking with battery disconnected
An originally unlocked door can only be opened from
the outside with the emergency key after the battery
has been disconnected.
e Open the window before disconnecting the
battery.
The door can be opened from inside and outside
by pulling the inside door handle twice. Pull the
inside door handle from the rest position to the
end stop for this purpose.
Locking doors
NOTICE
Extended door handles can be damaged in car
washes.
e Lock the vehicle before starting the car wash.
