    (→ , If Printing is Faint) Use the correct imagePROGRAF printer driver for the printer and try printing again. Set Auto Rotate to Off before attempting to print again. (→"Main Menu Settings," User Manual) Contact your Canon dealer for assistance.

    Problems with the Printing Quality Phenomenon Printing is faint Cause You may be printing on the wrong side of the paper. The Printhead nozzles are clogged. Because the printer was left without ink tanks installed for some time, ink has become clogged in the ink supply system.

    Troubleshooting Phenomenon Paper rubs against the printhead Cause The type of paper specified in the printer driver does not match the type loaded in the printer. Paper has been loaded incorrectly, causing it to wrinkle. The Printhead is set too low. You are printing on heavyweight paper or paper that curls or wrinkles easily after absorbing ink.
  • Page 7 Phenomenon The edges of the paper are dirty Cause The Platen has become dirty after borderless printing or printing on small paper. The type of paper as specified on the printer does not match the type specified in the printer driver. The paper is wrinkled or warped.
  • Page 8 Troubleshooting Phenomenon The surface of the paper is dirty The back side of the paper is dirty Printed colors are inaccurate Cause The Paper Retainer is soiled. You are using a paper that does not dry easily. The Platen has become dirty after borderless printing or printing on small paper.
  • Page 9 Phenomenon Banding in different colors occurs Cause The paper feed amount is out of adjustment. Printing does not proceed smoothly because print jobs are interrupted during transmission. In the printer menu, Print Length is specified in Feed Priority . The Printhead is out of alignment. The Printhead nozzles are clogged.
  • Page 10 Troubleshooting Phenomenon Colors in printed images are uneven Cause Line Drawing/Text is selected when printing images in many solid colors. You are printing on paper that curls easily. Printed colors may be uneven if you set the Print Quality too low. Color may be uneven between dark and light image areas.

The Printhead is set too high. The type of paper specified in the printer driver does not match the type loaded in the printer.

  • Page 13 Cannot Print Over Network Phenomenon Cannot connect the printer to the network Cannot print over a TCP/IP network Cause The Ethernet cable is not connected correctly to the printer's Ethernet port. The printer's IP address is not configured correctly. The printer's TCP/IP network settings are not configured correctly.
  • Page 14 Troubleshooting Phenomenon Cannot print over AppleTalk or Bonjour networks Cannot print over a NetWare network Cause The AppleTalk protocol is not enabled on the printer. The computer you are trying to print from is not configured correctly. The computer and printer are not on the same network.
  • Page 15 HP-GL/2 Problems Phenomenon Lines or images are missing in the HP-GL/2 data that was printed. Lines are printed too thick or thin from the HP-GL/2 data. HP-GL/2 jobs are printed in monochrome (or color). Printed colors are inaccurate in lines during HP-GL/2 printing HP-GL/2 printing takes a long time.

    If Roll Paper Jams Clear jammed roll paper as follows. If roll paper jams, follow the steps below to remove jams. • If you cannot fi nd the scrap or paper jam, look for the paper in the lower part of the printer and inside the top cover. (→"Troubleshooting When Paper Jams are not Found,"...
  • Page 19 If the Cutter is out, move the Cutter to the right side, away from the paper. • If the Cutter is on the left side, be sure to move it to the right. If the Cutter is on the left side when you turn the printer on, the printer may rip the paper.
  • Page 20 If Roll Paper Jams If the Carriage is on the left, move the Carriage to the right until it stops. • Always move the Carriage to the right side. If the Carriage is on the left, a Carriage error may occur when you turn on the printer.
  • Page 21 If a Sheet Jams Clear jammed sheets as follows. If a sheet jams, follow the steps below to remove it. Turn the printer off. (→"Turning the Printer On and Off," User Manual) Open the Top Cover . If the Carriage is out, move the Carriage out of the way, away from the paper.

  • Page 24 If Paper is Soiled • Do not touch the Linear Scale (a), Carriage Shaft (b), or Ink Tube Stabilizer (c). Avoid cleaning where the Carriage is retracted, in position (d) or (e). This may damage the printer. • If the Cleaning Brush is dirty, rinse it in water. Using a damp cloth that you have wrung out completely, wipe away dirt or paper dust (debris from cutting) inside the Top Cover .

    Write down the error code and message, turn off the printer, and contact your Canon dealer for assistance. Load a sheet and try printing again. To print on a roll instead, hold down the Stop button for more than a second to cancel printing, load a roll, and then print.

The loaded roll has expanded or contracted due to environmental conditions, making it wider or narrower than the supported width for borderless printing. Corrective Action Follow these steps to reload the roll.
