EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM INFORMATION

ENOM01000-0
Emission Sources
Carbon monoxide, oxides of nitrogen and
hy drocarbons are produce d in the
course of the combustion process. Con-
trolling production of oxides of nitrogen
and hydrocarbons is ver y impor tant
because they react to form a photo-
chemical smog under certain conditions
when subjected to sunlight. Carbon
monoxide does not react in the same
way, but is a toxic byproduct.
ENOM01001-0
Ignition Timing Control System
To reduce the amount of HC, CO and NOx
produced, the ignition timing control sys-
tem continuously adjusts the ignition tim-
ing.
ENOM01002-1
Fuel Injection system
The Fuel Injection system relies on, mul-
tiport fuel injection for both engine con-
trol and fuel control. The Engine Control
Unit (ECU) has several sensors to deter-
mine how much fuel is needed for injec-
tion under all operating conditions.

Clean Air Acts of the United States and
California, and Environment Canada
EPA, California, and Canadian regulations
require all manufacturers to provide writ-
ten instructions that describe the opera-
tion and maintenance of commercial
emission control systems.
The following instructions and proce-
dures must be followed in order to keep
the emissions from your engine within
these emission standards.
ENOM01004-0
Tampering and Modifications
Tampering is a violation of the Federal
Laws of the United States and California.
Tampering with or altering the emission
control system could cause emissions to
increase beyond legal limits. The following
acts, although not all inclusive, are con-
sidered as tampering:
Removing or modifying any part of the
intake, fuel or exhaust system.
Modifications that cause the engine to
operate outside its design parameters.
