WARNING
Damaged outer cable may cause the cable to
corrode and interfere with its movement. Re-
place damaged outer cable and inner cables
as soon as possible.
1. Check:
• Outer cable
Damage → Replace.
2. Check:
• Cable operation
Rough movement → Lubricate.
Recommended lubricant
Engine oil or a suitable cable lu-
bricant
TIP
Hold the cable end upright and pour a few drops
of lubricant into the cable sheath or use a suit-
able lubricating device.

LUBRICATING THE REAR SUSPENSION

Lubricate the pivoting point and metal-to-metal
moving parts of the rear suspension.
Recommended lubricant
Lithium-soap-based grease

CHECKING THE THROTTLE GRIP

1. Check:
• Throttle cables
Damage/deterioration → Replace.
• Throttle cable installation
Incorrect → Reinstall the throttle cables.
Refer to "HANDLEBAR" on page 4-72.
2. Check:
• Throttle grip movement
Rough movement → Lubricate or replace the
defective part(s).
Recommended lubricant
Suitable cable lubricant
TIP
With the engine stopped, turn the throttle grip
slowly and release it. Make sure that the throttle
grip turns smoothly and returns properly when
released.
Repeat this check with the handlebar turned all
the way to the left and right.
PERIODIC MAINTENANCE
3. Check:
• Throttle grip free play "a"
Out of specification → Adjust.
Throttle grip free play
3.0–5.0 mm (0.12–0.20 in)
4. Adjust:
• Throttle grip free play
TIP
Prior to adjusting the throttle grip free play, throt-
tle body synchronization should be adjusted
properly.

a. Slide back the rubber cover "1".
b. Loosen the locknut "2".
c. Turn the adjusting nut "3" in direction "a" or "b"
until the specified throttle grip free play is ob-
tained.
Direction "a"
Throttle grip free play is increased.
Direction "b"
Throttle grip free play is decreased.
d. Tighten the locknut.
Throttle cable adjusting locknut
3.8 Nm (0.38 m·kgf, 2.8 ft·lbf)
e. Slide the rubber cover to its original position.
