TROUBLESHOOTING
Problem
12. Platen is not parallel to the lower plate
when raising or lowering, smashing the
meat in the front or back of the cook
zone.

13. The platen will not lower to the preset
gap height.
14. The product is undercooked or 
overcooked.

Probable Cause
a. Carbon buildup will cause the platen to
bind and not cook properly (the front or
back of the platen remains too high
during the Cook cycle) or will not return
Home. The motor will activate and try
to push through the carbon, causing
motor failure and broken cables.
a. Defective stepper motor.
b. Defective cable(s).
c. Defective motor control board.
d. Control harness is loose or faulty.
e. Main display controller is faulty.
f. Excessive carbon buildup on the
shields.
a. The release material sheet is worn.
b. Incorrect cooking time.
c. Incorrect temperature.
d. Product is out of specification.
e. Product may have accumulated ice
crystals.
f. The preset gap height is incorrect.
g. The heating zone is not heating.
h. Cooking procedures may have been
followed incorrectly.
Model 810, 812, 820, 822, 828 Series
Remedy
a. Inspect the platen for carbon build
up around the grease shields.
Remove the carbon.
b. Remove the platen cover and
inspect the cables. Replace any
broken cables.
c. With the platen cover off, watch
the motor move from Home to
cook gap. Check the motor to see
if it is struggling or slipping to
return to the Home position.
Replace the stepper motor, if 
broken.
a. Replace the stepper motor.
b. Replace the cable(s).
c. Replace the motor control board.
d. Replace the control harness.
e. Replace main display controller.
f. Remove the carbon buildup.
a. Replace the release sheet.
b. Reset the processor control for the
correct time (check the Operations
and Training Manual).
c. Adjust the processor control to the
proper setting.
d. Product must be within 
specification (proper thickness,
shape, etc.).
e. Ensure that open boxes are kept
closed and that all product is 
covered during storage.
f. Re-gap the grill.
g. Repair/replace the heater.
h. Ensure that the product was
removed immediately after the
Cook cycle ended. Verify that the
correct product was selected from
the main menu screen.
