Tests
DS0 Test, use the arrow keys to toggle the field so that it displays the required interface, then
press the Enter key. Channel tests always use the T1 interface configured to carry the channel
data. If the selected test does not involve Self Test, go to step 8.
6. Select a Test Pattern by typing 2 (for T1), 7 (for Channel) or a (for DS0) and pressing the Enter
key. Highlighting appears on the Test Pattern selection field you have selected.
7. Use the arrow keys to toggle the field through the available selections until it displays the
pattern you intend to use, then press the Enter key.
If you are performing the DS0 Delay Test go to step 11.
Note
If you select 16-bit program as the test pattern for a T1 Self Test, consult the directions for setting a pro-
grammable pattern. Those instructions appear following these general test directions.
8. To select how long the test is to run, type f and press the Enter key. Highlighting appears on the
Test Duration selection field.
9. Use the arrow keys to toggle the field through the available selections until it displays the
duration you want to select, then press the Enter key.
If you are performing any test other than a T1 Local Test (with or without Self Test), go to
step 11.
10. T1 Local Test can isolate the DSU from Receive Timing, its normal source of timing. To
provide timing to run the test, type e and press the Enter key. Highlighting appears on the
Timing selection field. Use the arrow keys to toggle the field so that it displays Internal, and
press the Enter key. This instructs the DSU to use timing from its internal clock while the test
is running.
11. To start the selected test: type 5 for a T1 Test, 8 for a Channel Test or d for a DS0 Test and
press the Enter key. The display switches to the Diagnostics Results screen, as shown in Figure
4-2.
12. The Diagnostics Results screen has four command selections and three display fields.
The display fields are
Current test – identifies the selected test, the test pattern if it involves Self Test, and the selected
duration
Test status – displays current status; Running initially then Complete when the test is done
Time remaining (seconds) – counts down while the test runs; the initial value is greater than the
selected Test Duration because it includes hold time that follows the test to permit
resynchronization of any network devices that are affected by the test (does not apply to DS0
Delay Test)
