MultiPak Enclosure Back Panel
Figure 2-4
shows the back panel of the MultiPak enclosure. Two RJ48 modular jacks are used per
slot. The SC 553 DSU uses the upper jack for the T1 interface for netowrk connectivity. The SC
553 DSU can use the lower jack as either the interface connection for a station clock, or as a Cascade
port when the DSU is equipped with an optional Cascade Interface card.

Unpacking and Handling

Inspect the box for damage; if any is observed, notify the shipper immediately. Save the box and
packing material; you can use it to reship the unit, if necessary.

An SC 553 DSU card (See

1. Insert the module into its slot – in an SC 5000 shelf or MultiPak enclosure the GDC logo is on
top, in an SC 2000 shelf the GDC logo is to the right – and slide it in until it makes contact.
2. Pull down the ejector tab and firmly push the module in until it seats in the rear connectors.

Business Equipment Connections (DTE)

The standard business equipment interface for the SC 553 DSU is ITU-T V.35. The DSU can be
equipped with an optional, plug-in, piggyback card that supports EIA-530 interface.
Appendix B, Interface Signals describes the signals exchanged through the two business equipment
interfaces.
