Terminal Interface

Local access to the terminal interface functionality requires an SCM card when the SC 553 DSU is
installed in an SC 5000 shelf or a MultiPak enclosure. The SCM card supports two types of
connection for terminal interface functions:
connection of a VT100-compatible terminal via the Craft port on the SCM front panel
Telnet connection via the SCM LAN port located on the back panel of the shelf
When the SC 553 DSU is installed in a SpectraComm 2000 enclosure, the enclosure supports
connection of a VT100-compatible terminal via a back panel connector.
When there is a diagnostic communication channel (DCC) established between a master SC 553
DSU installed with an SCM and a remote SC 553 DSU, the terminal interface of the remote unit
can be accessed via the master site.

Initiating a Terminal Interface Session

The first portion of a terminal interface session varies depending on whether or not you're going
through an SCM card. If you are using an SCM card, the procedure also varies depending on
whether you use a VT100-compatible terminal connected directly to the SCM front panel or a
computer with a Telnet connection to the SCM LAN port.
VT100-compatible Terminal Connected to SC 2000 Enclosure
When the SC 553 DSU is installed in an SC 2000 enclosure and the other slot is empty, you must
connect the terminal to the back panel TERM connector for the occupied slot. When you turn on
the terminal, the first screen to appear is the SC 553 Main Menu screen shown in
When there are pc cards in both slots of an SC 2000 enclosure, you can connect the terminal to either
TERM connector on the back panel. When you turn on the terminal the first screen to appear is the
SpectraComm 2000 Console Port menu, which prompts you to select the slot you need to work
with. Selecting the slot that contains the DSU causes the SC 553 Main Menu screen to appear.
VT100-compatible Terminal Connected to SCM Card
When you connect a terminal to the SCM front panel, the first screen to appear is the Main Menu
screen shown in
