Terminal Interface Test Procedure
All tests that you perform by means of the terminal interface involve similar basic procedures,
which are described below. Descriptions of the individual tests appear on the following pages.

Terminal Interface Procedure
Employ the following procedure to initiate tests using the terminal interface:
1. If the test requires cooperation with an operator at a remote site, contact that person and make
arrangements to perform the test. Tests that must be initiated (and later terminated) at both
sites include all end-to-end self tests, Network Line and Payload Loopbacks, and Channel
Digital Loop.
2. Select [3] DIAGNOSTICS from the terminal interface Main Menu. The DSU responds by
displaying the SC553 Diagnostics Selection screen, as shown in
3. Select the test type you intend to perform: type 1 for a T1 Test, 6 for a Channel Test or 9 for a
DS0 Test and press the Enter key. Highlighting appears on the Test Type selection field you
have selected.
4. Use the arrow keys to toggle the field through the available selections until it displays the one
you intend to perform, then press the Enter key.
5. If you are performing a T1 or DS0 test and the optional cascade port is present, you have to
select the T1 interface (Network or Cascade) for the test. Type 4 for a T1 Test or c for a
