Management Features

The SC 553 DSU can be managed by either an SNMP controller or terminal interface functions.
How you communicate with the DSU to perform management functions is affected by
the housing in which it is installed –
SpectraComm 5000 16-slot shelf
MultiPak 10-slot enclosure
SpectraComm 2000 2-card enclosure
its status as either a master or remote unit
whether or not the system includes a SpectraComm Manager (SCM) card
When the DSU is installed in an SC 5000 shelf or a MultiPak enclosure, an SCM card can be
installed with it. The SCM card supports management communications for all compatible devices
in its housing and for any dedicated remotes linked to those devices. Installed in a linked pair of SC
5000 shelves, one SCM card can provide local management communication functions for up to 31
devices.
Table 3-1
illustrates how enclosure type and network architecture determine the availability of
management techniques.

Management Features
DSU A is the Master on the link. In conjunction
with the SCM it supports local SNMP and/or
terminal interface management. It can initiate a
DCC by performing remote wake up, and
support SNMP and/or terminal interface
management of the Remote over that
channel.DSU B is the Remote on the link; it
does not support local SNMP and/or terminal
interface at its own site.

DSU B is the Remote on the link; it can support
local terminal interface at its own site through
back panel TERM connector.
Each DSU is considered a Master, and supports
SNMP and/or terminal interface through its own
SCM. GDC TEAM applications can create a
circuit submap for managing both ends of the
link.
Each unit can support local terminal interface
through back panel TERM connector. Terminal
interface What Are You? screen shows both as
Remote.
