Operation and important riding points

Starting the engine

The sidestand must be up in order for
the ignition circuit cut-off system to en-
able starting (see page 5-15).
WARNING
Before starting the engine, make
sure that the vehicle is placed on the
centerstand.
NOTICE
See page 7-1 for engine break-in in-
structions prior to operating the ve-

hicle for the rst time.
To start the engine
1. Place the vehicle on the center-
stand.
2. Turn the key to "ON".
3. Apply the front or rear brake.
4. Push the start switch.
Each starting attempt should be
as short as possible to preserve
the battery. Do not crank the en-
gine more than 5 seconds on any
one attempt.

5. When the engine starts, release
the start switch.
If the engine does not start, try
again with the throttle grip open
1/4 turn (10 mm).

TIP
If the engine will not not start by push
ing the start switch, try using the kick
starter.
The engine will start and the Stop &
ECA10251
Start System is active (see page 4-1)
NOTICE
For maximum engine life, never ac-
celerate hard when the engine is
cold!
NOTICE
Do not ride through deep water, oth-
erwise the engine may be damaged.
Avoid puddles because they may be
deeper than expected.
