Sharpening the Cutting Attachment
Before sharpening, check the
N
cutting attachment for cracks,
damage and wear – see also
"Inspecting the Cutting
Attachment".
Sharpen the cutting attachment with
N
a whetstone (special accessory) or
have it sharpened by your dealer –
STIHL recommends a STIHL
servicing dealer.
Resharpen frequently, take away as
N
little material as possible.
Sharpen the cutting edge uniformly
N
– do not alter the contour of the
cutting attachment.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of injury, make sure
the cutting edge is always facing away
from your body during sharpening.

Perform forward strokes with the

wet whetstone against the cutting
edge while moving along the cutting
attachment – sharpen both sides of
the cutting edge.
Chisel
Perform forward strokes with the
N
wet whetstone against the cutting
edge while moving along the cutting
attachment – sharpen both sides of
the cutting edge.
NOTICE
For optimum cutting results: The cutting
edge of the cutting attachment must be
free from rust, burrs, sharo, smooth and
bright.
After sharpening
Remove grinding dust and apply a
N
thin coating of standard corrosion
inhibitor to the cutting attachment.

N
cracks, damage and wear – see
also "Inspecting the Cutting
Attachment".
