Working Technique with Sickle
Hold the control handle with your
N
right hand, and the shaft with your
left hand. Your left arm should be
extended to the most comfortable
position.
Note the different working techniques for
cutting palm fronds and harvesting fruit
bunches.

Cutting palm fronds
Hook cutting edge of the sickle over
N
the palm frond.
Open the throttle and cut through
N
the palm frond with the sickle.
Keep throttle open as long as the
N
sickle is in the cut.
With the sickle in the cut, pull it
N
downwards in the direction of the
shaft and finish cutting the palm
frond – do not twist the sickle in the
cut.
Do not accelerate engine when the
N
sickle is not in the cut.
Harvesting fruit bunches
Expose the fruit bunch – cut away
N
the surrounding palm fronds.
Apply tip of sickle to fruit bunch.
N
Open the throttle and cut through
N
the fruit bunch with the tip of the
sickle.
Keep throttle open as long as the
N
sickle is in the cut.
Do not accelerate engine when the
N
sickle is not in the cut.
If necessary, use the sickle as a
N
hook to pull out the fruit bunch.
Other steps
Apply the sickle to the next palm
N
frond or fruit bunch.
Always cut close to the trunk.
N
Repeat the procedure for the next
N
palm frond or fruit bunch.
Always shut off the engine before
N
leaving the unit unattended.
