b. INSPECTION
1) Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position and remove
the maintenance cover.
2) Disconnect the battery negative (–) cable, then disconnect
the battery positive (+) cable from the battery.
3) Remove the battery from the generator (P. 5-1).
4) Measure the battery voltage between the terminals using
the battery tester.
RECOMMENDED BATTERY TESTER:
BM-310 (YUASA) or equivalent.
Battery voltage
If the battery voltage is less than 12.3 V, charge the battery.
c. CHARGING
1) Remove the battery from the generator (P. 5-1).
2) Connect the positive (+) terminal of the charger to the
positive terminal of the battery, and connect the negative
(–) terminal of the charger to the negative terminal of the
battery.
Charging
time
• Only use the battery charger in a sufficiently ventilated
room with no flammable material in the area.
• Keep fire and sparks away from a charging battery.
• Turn power ON/OFF at the charger, not at the battery
terminals.
• Discontinue charging if the electrolyte temperature
exceeds 45°C (117°F).
NOTICE
• Use the battery charger desgined for maintenance-free
batteries.
• Quick-charging should only be done in an emergency;
slow-charging is preferred.
• Wait for approx. 30 minutes after charging before
measuring the battery voltage.
