write-enabled position causes the orange light to go out at the end of the
executing command.

If the cartridge is write-protected only by a software command and not
the write-protect switch, removing the operating system restriction causes
the orange light to go out.
•
If the cartridge is write-protected by both the switch on the cartridge and
a software command, you must change the switch setting and remove
the operating system restriction.
When you use a COMPACTape II cartridge to make a backup copy of files,
make sure the orange write-protect light is off. If the light is not off, check
for any of the write-protect conditions described above. Change the switch
setting and/or operating system restriction as necessary. Do not begin your
operation until the orange light goes off .
3.1.2.4 Tape Cartridge Handling and Storage Guidelines
•
Do not touch the exposed surface of the tape.
•
Do not drop the tape cartridge. The impact from a fall can damage the
tape cartridge.
•
Allow new tapes to stabilize at room temperature for 24 hours before
using them.
•
Place an identification label only in the label slot on the front of the tape
cartridge.
•
Store tape cartridges in a dust-free environment.
•
Keep tape cartridges away from direct sunlight, heaters, and other sources
of heat. Store tape cartridges in a stable temperature between 10° and
40° Celsius (50° and 104° Fahrenheit).
•
Store tape cartridges where the relative humidity is between 20 and 80
percent.
•
Keep tape cartridges away from magnets and equipment that generates
magnetic fields, such as motors, transformers, terminals, and audio
equipment.
•
Keep tape cartridges away from x-ray equipment.
