Chapter 1
System Overview
This introductory section describes the MicroVAX 3600 and VAXserver 3600
systems and the VAXserver 3602 system.
MicroVAX 3600 and VAXserver 3600 systems have identical H9644 cabinets
that house primary system components. At the top of the cabinet is an RA82
disk drive. Below the RA82 and behind a front door that limits access to
system controls is a BA213 enclosure, which houses the following:
Central processing unit (CPU)
Memory modules)
Communications controllers
Mass storage controllers
TK70 tape drive
Power supplies
One or two RA70 disk drives (optional)
Because the single cabinet is the basis of all MicroVAX 3600 or VAXserver
3600 systems described in this manual, this cabinet is referred to as the
system cabinet throughout the manual. Section 1.1 and Section 1.2 describe
the system cabinet in more detail.
Both the MicroVAX 3600 and VAXserver 3600 can have auxiliary cabinets
to hold additional mass storage devices. The following mass storage devices
can be mounted in auxiliary cabinets:
RA60 disk drive
RA81 disk drive
RA82 disk drive
TS05 tape drive
TU81—Plus tape drive
