Remote Programming
When you try to connect remotely to the FBC the modem responds 'NO
CARRIER' or no response is seen:
1) Verify that the FBC or the FAX machine is answering the call.
2) Verify that the Remote MF4 Security Code (#1 ) is being sent during a
silent period after the FAX or FBC auto-answers.
3) If you are using a modem that supports error-control communications, it
must be set for asynchronous mode. This is done by entering AT&Q0 at the
modem command state for Hayes
4) If you are using a modem that supports multiple communication protocols,
you must lock the protocol to V.21. This is done by entering ATB15N0S37=3
at the modem command state for Hayes
entering ATB0F1 for US Robotics modems.
Method of having the modem send the Remote MF4 Security Code if the FBC
auto-answers:
Using the modem string "ATDTXXXXXXX,,,,,,,#1 ," where XXXXXXX
represents the telephone number to dial. Each ',' will insert a 2 second delay
before dialling the #1 , so the telephone number will be dialled, then the
modem will wait 14 seconds. The modem will then send the security code and
try to connect. The number of 2 second waits that have to be used depends on
the delays in the network, the amount of time specified to wait before auto-
answering (Register 127). The example shown should work if Register 127 is
set to a 1.
Method of having the modem send the Remote Access Code if the FAX machine
auto-answers:
Using the modem string "ADTDXXXXXXX,,,,,,,#1 , #1 , #1 ", where
XXXXXXX represents the telephone number to dial; the "#1 , #1 " at the
end of the modem string sends the default access code; waits 2 seconds, and
then sends the code again; waits 2 seconds, and then send the code again. This
sequence should allow 1 set of access codes to be sent during the silent period
(between FAX tones) of the FAX machine. Each, , , will insert a 2 second delay
before dialling the "#1 " Remote Access Code. The number of "2 second
waits" that have to be used depends on the delays in the network, and the
specified wait before the FAX machine answers the call. The 011 register
should be set to the maximum value of
There are modems that will use different commands to set up asynchronous mode, or
other options, than the Hayes
shooting section result in an error message appearing on the monitor, then consult the
programming guide for the modem that is being used, for the appropriate AT commands.
