DeviceNET - DESIGN
13.1. Defini on
DeviceNet is an open network system used in the automa)on industry to interconnect control devices for data exchange. It
u)lizes the Common Industrial Protocol over a Controller Area Network media layer and defines an applica)on layer to cover a
range of device profiles. The protocol is standardised under IEC 62026-3.
Connec)ng the control heads to higher bus systems is possible using commercially available gateways.

Power and data transmiVed on a cer)fied standards-defined four-wire shielded cable
Network topology*:
Tightly defined trunkline/dropline topology, with specified maximum cable lengths according to the cable type. Two kinds of
cable, "thick" and "thin". Data bit rates from 125Kbit/s, 250Kbit/s and 500Kbit/s with maximum cable lengths 500m, 250m and
100m respec)vely. Trunkline/dropline cable budgets are strictly proscribed and must be followed.
The F783E control top module for D-NET is shipped with MACID (module address) set to 63.
* NOTE!
•
Maximum supply cable length is to be 30m. Control top must be installed in the same building as the control cabinet.
•
Installa on environment and wiring are influen al on the module's EMC: Thus the installer must secure EMC of the
whole device.
•
According to Norm EN 61326-1: 2006 (chart 2) DC supply connec ons to the module are treated as input/output
signal lines. For cable lengths greater than 30 m and outdoor applica ons addi onal measures must be implemented
in order to comply with CE
