9.1 Potential-free alarm output

The KESSEL control unit for the Staufix®
FKA can be fitted or retrofitted with a connec-
tion for a potential-free switch contact.
For this purpose, the additional board (order
no. 80072) is simply connected to the control
unit and the required control line connected
to the terminal clamps. The relay drops out in
the event of backwater or any fault messa-
ges, and when the test key is pressed.
Caution:
The
potential-free
contact is only approved up to 42 V DC /
0.5 A.
9.2 Automatic inspection of the opera-
ting valve
The motor is automatically checked for
function every 4 weeks. For this, the ope-
rating valve is opened and closed auto-
matically.
Any faults detected are indicated by
means of the respective fault message
and can then be eliminated as described
in chapter 4.

9.3 Sleep-Mode
If the control unit has been working by battery
for more than 2 hours, it goes into the so-cal-
led "Sleep mode". This means that the opera-
ting valve flap is closed automatically. During
sleep mode (flap closed), an optical and acou-
stic alarm is given every 20 seconds until the
battery is discharged. At the same time, the
alarm is displayed via the optional potential-
free contact. In sleep mode, the control unit is
in a "resting position". All the displays are swit-
switch
ched off. The fault message via the potential-
free contact remains, however. Once mains
voltage is available again, the control unit re-
turns to normal operation immediately.
This function prevents the battery from being
discharged completely and then no longer
being able to function in the event of a power
failure. This is particularly important during the
construction phase, for example, when the
control unit is installed but not yet continuous-
ly supplied with mains current. In this case, the
FKA is ready for operation thanks to battery
operation, but the battery is not discharged
completely.
10. Technical data

9.4 Checking the battery voltage

The control unit checks the battery volta-
ge constantly. If the battery voltage falls to
less than 13.5 V during battery operation,
the motor closes the operating valve, this
case is indicated by the power-LED and
the alarm-LED flashing briefly. Please
check the use-by date on both batteries
and replace them by new ones if neces-
sary. To do this, disconnect the control unit
from the mains first. Then disconnect the
two battery connection cables (see page
14) from the batteries, replace the batte-
ries and reconnect the new batteries. The
used batteries must be disposed of pro-
perly!
Caution: If the control unit has to be
scrapped, remove the batteries first
and dispose of them properly!
New batteries will last at least 2 years.
The following battery is approved for use
with the KESSEL Staufix® FKA: Duracell:
