Operation
Special SAM Considerations
If the SAM modem fails to make a connection with the authentication server, it will attempt
another call after the Redial Delay period.
If the SAM modem connects successfully with the server modem but fails to exchange proper
messages with the authentication server within 30 seconds after call is connected, the modem
will disconnect the call. Another attempt will be made after the Redial Delay period.
If remote configuration has been disabled (AT*R1), the SAM modem will not answer any
incoming calls while in the delayed redial state.
When remote configuration is enabled (AT*R0), the following commands are available for
remote configuration: %X0=, %X1=, %W, %I, and %Jn, %Sn, )M and @M.
When remote configuration is enabled (*R0), the SAM modem will answer incoming calls
even when the SAM modem currently has no valid key. After the time limit (10 to 30 minutes),
each incoming call will be dropped. The time limit is defined by the user with AT%In, where
n is in 10-minute increments (default is 1, i.e., 10 minutes).
When remote configuration is disabled (*R1), the SAM modem will only answer incoming
calls if it has a valid key. Otherwise, the modem will disconnect immediately if remote
configuration is attempted.
If a connection to the primary authentication server number fails and a secondary authentication
server phone number was defined, the modem will attempt to reach the secondary server. If the
secondary server connection also fails, the modem will retry the primary server in its next
attempt, and alternate between primary and secondary phone numbers until a successful key
update is accomplished.
If the Key Valid Time expires during a Client-to-SAM session, the modem will stay connected
to allow the Client to complete the current session. Update of the key will be delayed until
Client disconnects the call.
To reconfigure SAM operation in the modem, use the AT&F command to bring the modem
out of SAM mode. If the command parser has been disabled, use the front panel to fetch FACO.
Enabling SAM mode automatically forces the following modem options:
