Operation Overview
This chapter describes the modem's security features and modes of operation: command mode and
data mode. When in data mode, the modem transmits and receives data over a telephone line to a
modem and a DTE at another site.
When in command mode, the modem can accept AT commands which determine how it will
perform those essential functions.
The modem is controlled and configured via the following methods:
•
Front Panel control keys
•
AT commands sent to the modem from a terminal, PC, or other asynchronous DTE
•
ITU-T V.25 bis commands sent to the modem from a terminal, PC, or other DTE
•
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) commands sent to the modem through
a SpectraComm Manager card (Terminal or Telnet sessions)
•
Using a MIB browser, an SNMP network manager can also configure and control the
modem through its MIB objects.
Besides the information provided in this chapter, refer to the following sources as needed:
•
Chapter 4, AT Command Set Operation provides detailed descriptions of each AT
command, including the modem's configurable characteristics and functions that are
controlled by the commands.
•
Chapter 5, V.25 bis Command Set Operation provides detailed descriptions of the V.25
bis command set.
