Reviewing Rack Installation Safety Guidelines
Before installing the device in a rack, review the following guidelines:
Preparing the CDEs for Rack Installation
The rack must be of the following type:

The CDE205 and CDE220 2G2 models are not hot-swappable, you must power down the CDEs before

The storage drive names, except fot the Internet Streamer models (CDE205, CDE220 2G2, and CDE200
2S3I), are located in the /proc/cds/cdd/disks directory.
On the CDE250, a red LED is included on a drive to visually locate a device and to identify the state of
the device. For devices that have failed or that have been logically removed, the visual indication is also
accompanied by an audible alarm.
Equipment is to be installed by a trained service person.
Equipment is to be installed in a restricted access location.
Handles on the equipment are provided for positioning purpose only, not for lifting the chassis.
You should follow your own company guidelines and governing regulations for handling heavy
equipment.
Two or more people are required to install the device in a rack.
Do not block any air vents; usually 6 inches (15 cm) of space provides proper airflow.
Plan the device installation starting from the bottom of the rack.
Install the heaviest device in the bottom of the rack.
Do not extend more than one device out of the rack at the same time.
Remove the rack doors and side panels to provide easier access during installation.
Connect the device to a properly grounded outlet.
Do not overload the power outlet when installing multiple devices in the rack.
Do not place any object weighing more than 110 lb (50 kg) on top of rack-mounted devices.
A standard 19-in. (48.3-cm) wide, four-post EIA rack, with mounting posts that conform to English
universal hole spacing, per section 1 of ANSI/EIA-310-D-1992.
The rack post holes can be square 0.38-inch (9.6 mm), round 0.28-inch (7.1 mm), #12-24 UNC, or
#10-32 UNC when you use the supplied slide rails.
The minimum vertical rack space per server must be two RUs, equal to 3.5 in. (88.9 mm).
During this procedure, wear grounding wrist straps to avoid ESD damage to the card.
Do not directly touch the backplane with your hand or any metal tool, or you could
shock yourself. Statement 94
