Troubleshooting Gas Fired Boilers
Cause
Vapor locking of pump
Impeller Adjustment
Back pressure on pump
Plugged feed water nipple
Remedy
Allow system to cool down, check steam traps to make sure
they are operating properly, and check to be sure return
lines are not insulated. Check feedwater tank temperature.
If it is above 180 F (82 C) vapor locking may occur,
depending on pump selection. Inspect check valves. Clean
and replace as needed. Replace pump with multistage
pump good for 250 F (121 C).
Check for impeller wear and adjust per component
information in instruction manual (Burks/MTH only).
Install repair kit on pump.
Check and clean or replace as necessary.
