How to Adjust Strong and Weak Echoes

3.6.1

How to set AGC (Near, Far and Distance)

The AGC functions to automatically reduce the receiver gain only against strong
echoes such as a large school of fish. Since weak echoes remain unaffected, a small
school of fish becomes easier to detect. This equipment allows you to adjust near and
far AGC based on distance. Do not set the AGC too high; weak echoes may be
missed. This function does not affect echoes from the seabed (bottom). To adjust sea-
bed echoes, see section 3.6.2.
1. Open the menu.
2. Select [2 Gain Setting], then left-click.
3. Select [8 AGC Distance], then left-click.

The available setting range is 20 m to 2000 m, with 20 m steps.
5. Select [Quit], then left-click.
6. Select [6 Near AGC] or [7 Far AGC] as required, then left-click.
• [6 AGC Near]: Suppress gain in area closer than the [3 Near Gain Distance].
• [7 AGC Far]: Suppress gain in area that is beyond the [5 Far Gain Distance].

The available setting range is [0.0] to [10.0]. The higher the setting value, the high-
er the reduction. An excessively high AGC can hide weak echoes.
8. Select [Quit], then left-click.
