Chapter 10: Upgrading the Branch Gateway

Branch Gateway firmware upgrades

Software used to control the Branch Gateway itself and media modules installed on the Branch
Gateway is called firmware. You can upgrade the firmware on the Branch Gateway and media
modules using various different tools, each suitable for specific types of installation.
Important:
Branch Gateways that are using a release prior to Release 7.1.2 Build 39.5.0 must first install
Release 7.1.0.2 Build 38.21.0 or a later 38.x.y load. If you download Release 7.1.2 prior to
installing the Release 7.1.0.2 and execute the show download software status 10
command, the system displays the following error message:
Incompatible software image for this type of device.
After installing Release 7.1.0.2, you must enable or disable Avaya Logins before downloading
Release 7.1.2 via CLI or SNMP.
You can enable or disable Avaya Logins by using one of the following options:
1. Use one of the following CLI commands.
a. login authentication services– To enable Avaya Logins.
b. no login authentication services – To disable Avaya Logins.
2. Confirm Avaya Logins can be enabled or disabled during firmware download. If
confirmation was not completed previously, you can confirm this when you download the
software. This can be confirmed by using one of the following CLI commands:
a. copy ftp SW_imageA
b. copy ftp SW_imageB
c. copy scp SW_imageA
d. copy scp SW_imageB
e. copy tftp SW_imageA
