On regular shoe soles
Sometimes research studies require the FSR to be placed on the shoe sole. This
method may be used, but it requires careful setup so the FSR is not damaged.
In order to minimize abrasion to the FSR, "tape" over the FSR. However, do not tape
the FSR too tight because it will affect the quality of the signal.
Bend the FSR tail carefully over the top of the shoe
The bend in the tail should be greater than 4mm (as per photo).
If the shoe is rough on the edge where the tail is bent, place the FSR tail over a soft
object, e.g. cotton wipe.
Ensure the FSR is not touching a sharp or rough edge because this can damage the
FSR.
16.1.2 Securing the FSR
Typically, the FSR is taped to the surface, e.g. foot, shoe sole, slipper. In the photo below, double-
sided medical tape is used to secure the sensing area to the foot. The FSR tail is secured using
medical tape. If tape covers the vent hole, ensure that the tape is porous and does not seal the vent
hole closed.
16.1.3 FSR Connector
This special connector allows easy replacement, but keeps the FSR from falling out during testing.
If the connector pins bend, use flat-head pliers to straighten the pins. Do not bend the FSR by the
connector pins when it is inserted into the FSR Sensor Assembly; this can cause the pins to break
off inside the cable. The connector pins cannot be removed from the Sensor Assembly; the cable
will need to be replaced.
