11.1 Troubleshooting Storage Enclosure Basic

This section provides instruction on how to troubleshoot the Storage Enclosure Basic and the major
components contained within the enclosure. Because the ActiveScale X100 contains six Storage Enclosure
Basic, any one enclosure may be taken offline at any give point for troubleshooting various parts that are
not hot swappable. However, before a Storage Enclosure Basic is taken off line, its corresponding Storage
Node must be taken offline first. The enclosure contains hot swappable power supply units and fan
modules that may go through troubleshooting methods while the enclosure is still running.

11.1.1 Troubleshooting a fan fault LED

To troubleshoot a fan fault LED on the Storage Enclosure Basic, do the following:
1. From the rear of the rack, identify the Storage Enclosure Basic fan that is indicating a fault. The fan
LED will be flashing amber at a rate of one second intervals.

2. Remove and replace the fan.
Important: Ensure that the rear fans are replaced quickly. The rear fan removes
hot air from the enclosure. If the enclosure contains a failed fan for prolonged
periods of time, the risk of overheating will be elevated.
Warning: Do not place fingers anywhere near the fan blades while powered on.
3. Verify that the fault LED is no longer on.
4. If the fault LED is still on, do the following:
a. Swap the fan that is indicating a fault with another fan on the enclosure.
b. If the fault LED is still lit, the fan may need to be replaced.
c. If the slot that had the failed fan fault still has the LED lit after installing a fan that is known to be
working, then the corresponding sled may need to be replaced.
