2.2 Prior to commissioning
The starting point must be clear prior to commissioning. Ask the following questions:
• Central communication units
• Communication via Ethernet
• Web server function
Different commissioning steps are needed depending on the starting point. This applies
to central communication units V1.0 in particular (update to firmware V2.0 required).
This document applies to central communication units V1.0 with firmware update V2.0
and to central communication units V2.0. This document refers to both versions as
"central communication unit".
The following ACS software is needed to commission the central communication units
with communication via Ethernet and web server functions:
• ACS CD V5.02 or higher, see Section 2.3.1
• ACS CD V5.10 or higher, see Section 6.4.1
2.2.1 Central communication units V1.0
Central communication units V1.0 (software or firmware version V1.0) were produced
prior to March 2008.
The firmware of the central communication units V1.0 can be updated to V2.0 (from
March 2008) to reflect the same status as the new central communication units.
After updating the firmware, the central communication units V1.0 are:
• Functionally equivalent to central communication unit V2.0.
• No longer backward compatible.
This means:
• You must create a new plant.
• You cannot reuse backups of existing plants.
You must update the firmware of the central communication units V1.0 to V2.0 (see
Section 2.4.2), if the following functions are needed:
• Ethernet = Yes
Web server function = No
• Ethernet = No
Web server function = Yes
• Ethernet = Yes
Web server function = Yes
Central communication units V1.0 with "Ethernet = No, Web server function = No" are
(presumably) deployed already. If not, see the commissioning instructions C5663,
Edition 1.0, dated December 6, 2005.
