Area of Interest (AOI) Setup

The Area of Interest (AOI) feature can be used to red uce the am ou nt of image-d ata output from the
camera. Use this feature w hen there are areas in the image that contain u nneed ed inform ation.
An examp le w here you w ould use this feature is in an application that is inspecting several sep arated
lanes of objects w ith one camera and the im age betw een the lanes can be ignored .
The AOI feature allow s from one to four specific areas of the pixel line to be specified w here im age d ata
w ill be output. Since the AOI feature red uces the amount of d ata outpu t, this has the ad d itional benefit of
allow ing the cameras to op erate at higher EXSYN C rates w hen using base, med iu m , or full camera link
mod es.
For example, if the total nu mber of pixels for the specified AOI`s is less than 1 K w hen using base Camera
Link m od e at 85 MH z, the maximu m EXSYN C rate can be 70 KH z; versus 20 KH z if all 4 K p ixels w ere
output.
N ote: The setup of AOI is alw ays w ith respect to the sensor. Therefore, if you are using the mirroring
mod e w ith AOI, be aw are th at p ixel one w ill be on the right sid e of the d isp layed image.
In order to set up an AOI for the camera:
1. The AOI m od e mu st first be in the off position.
2. Use the AOI Cou nt to select the total number of AOIs d esired to a max of 4.
3. To set up each AOI ind ivid u al u se the AOI Selector to point to the AOI to be set u p.
4. AOI Offset X is used ind icate the starting pixel of the AOI.
5. AOI Wid th is used to ind icate the w id th of the that AOI.
