Camera Mounting and Heat Sink Considerations

Up to tow optional heat sinks can be installed on the Piranha4 camera. As illu strated , they are id eally
positioned to allow close sp acing of the cameras. These heat sinks are d esigned to provid e ad equ ate
convection cooling w hen not obstructed by enclosures or mou nting assemblies.
Teled yne DALSA recognises that each customer's app lication can be u nique. In consid eration, the P4
camera heat sinks have been d esigned in such a w ay that they can be repositioned on the d ifferent faces
of the camera or removed entirely, d epend ing on the mou nting configuration and its heat sinking
potential.
Repositioning or removal of the heat sinks m ust be performed w ith care in ord er to avoid temperature
issues. The camera has the ability to measure its internal tem perature. Use this feature to record the
internal temperature of the camera w hen it is m ounted in your system and operating und er the w orst
case cond itions. The camera w ill stop outputting d ata if its internal temperature reaches 80 °C.

Filters

CMOS cameras are responsive to infrared (IR) w avelengths of light. Infrared light can be problem atic
w ith halogen light sources but is not an issue w ith w hite LED sources. When infrared light is present
w ith this camera color fid elity is red uced . To prevent infrared from d istorting the im ages you scan, u se
an IR cut off filter such as a BG-38 on the lens.
